As with all the events, this race kicks off with a nasty climb 1km from the start – just to break the ice. There is a prize for the first person who reaches the top of the mountain on the mountain bike- and trail run race. For the rest of the field… well you’ll just have to slog it out to the top. The route follows around Kranskop (also known to some as Sneeuberg). Once you have passed the mountain -if you have time- look back to see the hole in the mountain. The route runs along Saksies pass on the escarpment of the Drakensberg before joining up with the Mullerspass-Memel district road. By this time you’ll have reached the half- way mark. The trail continues on the district road for just under 12 km before turning right back towards Kranskop. On the 43rd km, you’ll find the last climb – 6km long with a 300m ascent. From here it is a free ride back to the finish.
